sometimes we like someone
and we like them in a special way
not like a pet
they're more than that
and we think about them everyday

we wonder if they know

and if we show that side
will they go and hide
so they won't have to say "no"?

sometimes we need a friend
to talk to about that special friend
someone to say
"it's best this way"
when things don't go right in the end

we wonder if it's guff
do they want to hear our stuff?
when they say "of course
that's what friends are for"
have they really heard enough?

sometimes we write a song
to help our feelings move along
if we can sing
about something
our feelings may not hurt so long

we wonder how the fall
made us feel so weak and small
then it starts to seem
like a silly dream
and nothing hurts at all

sometimes we say "good-bye"
and we don't feel that we need to cry
it's good to know
when we let go
we find we're also saying "hi"
